Watermelon & Peach Salsa-Makes It A Great Treat

Watermelon Recipe Opinion

Ok, to be honest when someone told me they were bring a dish with watermelon and tomatoes to a girls night out, the idea did not appeal to me, but then I remembered my grandmother in the garden saying ” what grows together goes together”, and after I tasted this recipe I have to agree.  The trick to making this particular summer salad is to use very ripe  watermelon, tomatoes and cucumbers that are at their peak of flavor.

I also love that this is a wholesome recipe – it's a contrast in flavors that makes your taste buds dance, and  ask fro more-  a tropical salsa that's refreshing and an incredible change of pace. And you can put it all with each other just before you go if require be. Folks love to try this different watermelon and peach salsa and it really is usually the talk in the get-together or party no matter the group, whether raw fooders, vegans, vegetarians or not.

It is a really nice recipe that allows you to use fresh fruits of the season, and add a colorful addition to the table. If you would prefer it on the sweeter side you can skip the hot pepper jelly, but it is a surprise ingredient that many will not expect. You can also just make the recipe with the first 5 or 6 ingredients and serve fish or pork. Alternative sto the recipe are to add feta cheese, and substitute other fresh fruits such as grapes or  strawberries for the water melon.

This recipe…takes a little preparation just about 10 -15 minutes and yields about 6-8 servings or so. And it keeps nicely inside the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Ensure that to use organic peaches mainly because when non-organic peaches are sprayed there's no way to wash off the pesticide residue – it will be absorbed inside skin.

Getting To Know The Manufacturing of Kingspan Kooltherm

Its closed chamber  structure resists both moisture and water vapour ingress – problems which can be associated with open cell materials such as mineral fibre and which can result in reduced thermal performance. Unlike mineral fibre, it is unaffected by air movement which will prevent it from experiencing problems which will reduce its thermal performance. It is exceedingly  safe and quick to apply – masks are not required, as Kingspan Insulation materials  don’t produce loose dust or irritable fibres. Finally, like all Kingspan goods , the Kingspan Kooltherm range is completely CFC/HCFC free and has Zero Ozone Depletion Potential.
An additional great form of insulation is polystyrene insulation which is available in both extruded and expanded polystyrene. Extruded polystyrene is applied to insulate homes or offices as it is much more effective than expanded polystyrene. Expanded polystyrene is typically used for packaging products, and to insulate standard appliances. Polystyrene insulation is what the Kooltherm range of insulation products are made of. These products are ideal, perfect for interior or exterior wall insulation as well as roof and floor insulation, whilst also including, basement insulation.
Cellulose insulation is a improved method of insulation that is the most environmentally kind material available in the market. Due to the fact insulation reduces the amount of energy needed to heat or cool a residence, it is environmentally kind. Due to the fact cellulose is produced from recycled card and other paper sources which might otherwise be left in the ground and release greenhouse gases while it decomposes, it is therefore believed to be the “greenest” product. If our world was to change every piece of paper that is being put into landfills into cellulose insulation, eight million tons of carbon dioxide emissions would be saved. To picture this, imagine removing every car in New Mexico and Nevada off the road. That is the equivalent of 8 million tons of carbon dioxide. Fibreglass uses ten times the amount of energy that cellulose does, and foam insulation uses 64 the amount of energy. Cellulose insulation is applied by blowing it into the wall cavity and then making it non-abrasive. The only bad part of cellulose insulation is that it requires you to hire a builder so as not to injure yourself.
Kingspan Kooltherm materials  are considered for insulation because of their low price as well as effectiveness.

Container Gardening Is A Gardening Joy

If you enjoy gardening but do not have the space then container gardening may suit you. You can't deny the absolute delight of having your own backyard. Being able to grow all manners of greens is a fulfilling experience. Though, not everyone is lucky in having a garden of their own. Urban dwellers for example, have to compete with little space, and their demanding timetables make their crop growing and flower gardening an improbable activity.

Container gardening, as its name suggests, is merely growing vegetables and plants in containers. Plants for  pot gardening aren't as demanding as their outside equivalents.  In the beginning, let's think about the most popular of these container gardening varieties – the cactus. Cactuses don't need that much water. They don't even require a daily dosage of sunshine. They are suitable internal plants for individuals on the move.

Cactuses aren't the sole types of pot gardening vegetation.  In reality, many container gardeners spurn cactuses as being too simple to produce and sustain.  Element of gardening is the challenge of producing healthy vegetations, after all, cactuses require minimal to no management as to justify a tough experience.

You may like to grow herbs as part of your container gardening layout. Choosing the correct containers for your herb garden is simple. They don't need to be large and the common plastic pots will work beautifully. You can always use small terra cotta pots or ceramic containers for a more finished look. While the kind of pot isn't important, the drainage is. Make sure there are adequate drainage holes. The fastest way to kill your herbs is to have them sit in water because of poor drainage. To prevent any soil loss through watering, place a coffee filter in the bottom of the container. Herb container gardening is easy when you use caution in watering your plants.

Your favorite herbs are the best type of herbs to grow. In simple terms grow what you want to eat. For herb container gardening there are some stand bys that the experts suggest. Oregano, rosemary and chives are good first attempt choices. They grow more slowly than other options and are relatively small in size. Basil, thyme, and sage fall into this category as well.

If you would like to grow vegetables in containers, where you want to place your container garden is the first thing you have to determine. Try to choose a spot that gets roughly five hours of direct sunlight a day.

Your next decision is what types of vegetables you want to grow. That will dictate the container sizes. Anything that will grow in your region in a regular vegetable patch will do just fine using the container vegetable gardening method. A lot of success has been found growing squash, lettuce, and eggplant in containers. Other success stories include beans, onions, and tomatoes. As cucumbers and pole beans are vine like plants remember to give them plenty of space.

Container gardening is a best choice for people who have always wished to cultivate their own vegetations but are continuously restricted by the limitations enforced by their location and their lifestyle. It is gardening made easy.

Another option for easy to maintain container gardening, is to choose perennials. Cold Climate Landscaping Using Fruit Trees

Fruit Trees for New England

Fruit trees are a fun and beautiful addition to any yard. They will thrive in cold climates if cared for properly. The further north you go, the more care you will need to lavish on your trees, but the resulting fruit is tastier than anything you will find in a store.

Some fruit trees are better suited to New England. Proper care and climate can bring out the beauty of apples, pears and cherries along with peaches. The home owner will find they can save space by planting the dwarf varietes. Plant your trees in the spring, once the ground has thawed, and expect to wait a year or two before you start to see fruit.

When choosing trees for the New England climate you want to select your trees carefully. Among apples the best varieties include the Pippin, the Canada Red, Fall Russets and McIntosh. They all do well in colder climates. Small home plantings of heirloom varieties may do better then using commercial varieties.

Bartlett and Bosc pears are good choices for New England. Seckel pears are smaller than other varieties but produce a fruit that is almost spicy in flavor and does well in the cooler northern climates. There are numerous heirloom varieties that you can only purchase locally and that will grow better in your area, so check around.

When it come to being resistant to the cold, peach trees not at the top of the list. Since buds set in the fall and then have to make it through the winter to produce fruit in the spring, make sure to pick the hardiest varieties. Fingerlakes and Reliance are hardy even in the cold New England climate and produce good amounts of fruit. Just remember to cull them early so the branches don’t get over set. And stop by your local landscaping supply store to chat with their experts about chioces.

In order to get fruit from your trees you will need to make sure that you either get self pollinating trees or that you get trees that can pollinate each other. In some areas the trees bloom before the bees are out and you can help your trees along by using a paint brush to pollinate the flowers, go from flower to flower and transfer the pollen yourself.

Cull occurs once the fruit tree is set. Some varieties need to be reduced as much as 90%. If you have questions about how much to cull, give your county extension agent a call. Removing young fruit from the tree will help produce a better crop latter in the season. Remember it is better to have a little well developed fruit then lots of poorly developed fruit.

Unfortunately most fruit trees are subject to pests and diseases. Apply sprays and adding netting to your fruit trees are required chores if you want the most from your fruit trees. Sprays can be acquired at you local landscape supply store or home improvement store. Spraying schedules vary from place to place, so it is best to consult with your gardening store or county extension office for specifics. Products are available for the organic gardener as well as the conventional gardener, but all of them have some dangers, make sure you take precautions when you spray.

Fruit trees are beautiful as well as functional. Spring brings loads of delicate blossoms in shades of pink and white. There are few trees as grand in foliage as fruit trees. Well worth the effort, fruit trees are a wonderful addition to any yard.

Gophers: What Are They?

Pocket gophers are rodents, medium to small in size, which burrow, spending 99% of their lifespan in underground tunnels and nests. Gophers have external cheek pouches on the outdie of their mouths where they store food for their young. There are a wide array gopher species in North America.  They are powerful diggers, have front paws with large claws which make them the enemy of many home owners with well manicured lawns. The pocket gopher is well suited for digging holes and tunnels because the generally live underground, and when over populated, pocket gophers become difficult to control.

Pocket gophers eat roots of grass, forbs, shrubs, and even someitmes small trees. Gophers are very destructive for tree plantations. In fact, each year the Forestry Service contracts pest control professionals to manage pocket gophers in order to safeguard new tree seedlings. These mamals are herbivores that love to eat all kinds of plants in yards, gardens and flowerbeds. The burrow systems they dig ave many different braches and individual gophers tend to be quite territorial. During studies in California, where radio collars were placed on gophers, some gophers were tracked moving 200-300 ft per night. Just one gopher might dig up to 250 mounds per year, moving almost 4 tons of soil within a few weeks. Burrows constalty change and evolve, with some tunnels sealed off and new ones created. How many sizable tunnels and burrows are created? No one can really say but gophers cause serious damage for property owners.

Pocket gophers work year round, during the winter, the summer, even during heavy snow fall. In alfalfa fields, gophers are often watched feeding above ground. On the whole, gophers move through their tunnel sustem and eat the dangling roots. An simple way to figure out if a pocket gopher occupies a tunnel system is to simply dig open the tunnel. If gophers are active then they will fill in that hole, in this case, you have gophers.

Gophers are one of the most difficult to manage in the U.S. EPA approved traps and baits are for the most part used to deal with gopher infestations and their impact on the environment. Some bait includes the following active ingredients: strychnine, diphacinone, chlorophacinone, and zinc phosphide. {Tablets and cartridges containing fumigants are acceptable ways to address a pocket gopher infestation}. However, because of the length of the tunnel systems, such fumigants may not be very effective.

Plumeria – Keeping Them Healthy

Plumeria are easy to take care of. Many people over the last few years have joined the ranks of Plumeria owners because of thier beauty, frangrance and ease of care. Every now and then you do need to give your plant a spring cleaning to keep it in tip top shape. Follow the tips below and you will have Plumerias to be proud of.

Repotting: After the first year or two, that 4-6 inch pot your Plumeria plants started in will be too small to sustain vigorous growth. A 10-inch or even larger pot will sustain your plumeria for the next few years. Choose a good commercial potting soil and mix in a good drainage material like Perlite or sand. Add a little extra organic matter as well. Teas Plumeria Mix or Teas Rose Bed Mix make this very easy for you. You can also mix your own by combining 30% Perlite, 35% soil and 35% sand. Mix in a little Osmocote 14-14-14 pellets or other time-release fertilizer if you wish. Remember to provide fresh soil every year. Replant your plumeria so the stem is at the same level as before. Sometimes you can skip the repotting and just top up your soil. To do this, remove some of the soil off the top of the pot and add fresh mix. You can alternate this with repotting. Pruning the fine roots each spring is beneficial to the plant. The fine roots from the year before will die during the winter. These old roots take a long time to decompose, and may clog your pot. If you prune the roots, you can put fresh soil around the larger roots for several years, keeping the same pot. Just fill the space the old fine roots took up with fresh soil.

Winter protection – Plumeria should be brought in after temperatures begin to fall into the 40's(F). Water them before bringing them inside. YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TO WATER THEM VERY MUCH, IF AT ALL, FOR THE WINTER. Store the plants in a s bright a light as possible. Although they will survive dark cool storage for the winter they will bloom better with a growing season that is extended with bright light and warmth. They will be straighter and more compact with bright light through the winter. Greenhouse conditions would be ideal, keeping the plants close to 70 degrees F. If necessary they can be stored inside by removing them from their pots, shaking loose the soil and storing them in warm attics or closets for the winter. You can remove the leaves, but if you do, give them an extra day or so for the latex to dry before packing them away. After the warm weather has started in the spring, take them out and trim the roots and repot or even plant them in the ground. You can plant them in pots and submerge the pot partially or fully in the ground, making removal in fall easier and promoting good growth in the warm weather. Use Superthrive to help get them going and remember to shade them from intense sun for two weeks when bring them out for the spring/summer.

Pruning: You can prune plumeria at any time using a sharp knife. Be sure to cut at an angle so the cut won't hold any moisture. The plant will bleed latex sap, but it will stop in a day or so. If you dip the cut briefly in water, it can help it stop flowing. If you think the plant is getting too tall, prune it so the blooms will be at a better height. Your plumeria will just grow more branches and bloom even more. You may notice that some cuttings bloom before they even grow leaves.

Growing from cuttings – Cuttings for propagation should be at least 1 foot long. ALLOW THEM TO DRY in a ventilated area for a few days to a week (even longer if necessary). Use Superthrive to water the potted cuttings, which should be kept on the dry side in light shade. Plant the cuttings in a 3-inch hole you dibble in the potting mix. The roots will have to come from the bottom of the cutting, so planting too deeply is not advised. In a month your plant should be rooted. It will root better with bottom heat or warm surroundings. The pot should be about 4 – 6 inches wide and 4 – 6 inches deep. Cuttings are subject to rot if they are kept too moist or dark.

Growing Plumeria from Seed: Plumeria can be grown easily from seed, but the seedlings will not remain true to their variety. All named varieties are grown from cuttings from plants with excellent characteristics. If you want to grow your own seed, just let the pods develop and ripen over several months. The seed is explosive, so you may want to tie a paper bag around it to catch all the seed. Each pod holds about 100 seeds. Plant the seeds in a 3-4 inch tray with bottom heat. Use a soil-less mix such as Pro-Mix as the growing medium. Plant the seeds about ¼ inch deep. Tamp them down firmly and water them gently. You'll be amazed at how quickly they sprout. Don't overwater or your seedlings will damp-off. When they have grown at least two true leaves, transplant them to small pots. They will grow quickly and will bloom in about the same amount of time it takes a cutting to bloom.

Plumeria care is easy. Following the tips in this article will keep you plants healthy and more likely to flower.

What Are Your Choices in Greenhouse Lights?

When you're setting up your new greenhouse, don't forget to pay attention to the kind of light you'll be using. Proper lighting is crucial in order for a plant to flourish. Proper lighting will go a long way towards making sure that your plants thrive. Here are a few things you should be aware of in order to get the best greenhouse lighting system for your needs.

1. The first thing you need to do is figure out the amount of light you will require. The factors you need to consider are the type of plants you're going to raise, and the size of your greenhouse. Tall plants, fruit and flowers need more light than other plants. An outdoor greenhouse will typically use 25 watts per square foot. But an indoor greenhouse will need twice as much light or more.

2. The kind of light you use should be suitable for the plants you're growing. The type of light waves produced has a significant effect on plant growth. For instance, if you want optimal growth for fruit or flowers, use high pressure sodium lights. These give off red light waves which are beneficial for encouraging growth hormones in plants. Metal halide lights utilize the blue spectrum and are best suited to leafy plants.

3. Don't let your lighting overheat your plants. Too much heat can kill them. Some kinds of lighting give off a considerable amount of heat. For instance, incandescent lighting gives off a lot of heat. Since the light they provide isn't considered to be sufficient for most plants, they're really not a good choice. However, fluorescent grow lights give off a lot less heat. Before you buy, take some time to figure out the amount of heat that each style of lighting will give off.

4. Use lighting that will produce good results without consuming massive amounts of energy. High intensity discharge lights are the most energy efficient type of indoor greenhouse lighting available. Unfortunately, they're also the most expensive to purchase. LCD grow lamps are rapidly gaining in popularity because of their energy efficiency. They also produce lower levels of heat.

No matter what kind of indoor greenhouse lighting you decide on, it’s essential that you turn it off from time to time. Use lighting wisely, only when and where it's required. For optimal growth, plants need a certain amount of darkness. Leave the lights off for 6 to 12 hours each day in your garden greenhouse, depending on what kind of plants you have.
