Blueberry Recipes- What To Look For When Choosing Berries
Picking the fresh blueberries right off the bush and eating them out of your hand is a great snack, but there are many scrumptious blueberry recipes that will have you clamoring for clean buckets to fill up. If you don’t have your own blueberry bushes (Get Your Own BlueBerry Bushes Click Here), or yours are not mature enough to produce fruit, you don’t have to fret. You can find some decent berries at the market, but you just need to know what to look for.
Search the produce at your local market or better yet the local farmers market for fresh blueberries that are plump, firm, and dry. The skin should be smooth with a deep purple to dark blue color. If the berries are green tinted, or reddish in color don’t buy them. Pick up the containers to look for stains as this could be a sign they were not transported properly and might have suffer damage such as being crushed. If you see a bunch of wrinkly berries they are old, dehydrated or have been stored to long.
A good rule of them is to use the fresh blueberries within 10 days of purchasing. Refrigerator immediately, but do not rinse the berries before storing in the refrigerator as this can soften the fruit and create mold.
Blueberry recipes can be as simple as mixing berries with fresh fruits in a salad, to gourmet blueberry chutney, but today we are going to share blueberry pie recipes.
